An
announcement from Iran last week placed restrictions on female university
students and turned 77 university fields of study into male-only fields. The
gender ban includes a variety of business-related fields. Critics believe the
decision, which has already been officially approved, is aimed at defeating
progress toward achieving equal rights for women in the country. Robert Tait of
The Telegraph reports:
- “Under the new policy, women undergraduates will be excluded from a broad range of studies in some of the country’s leading institutions, including English literature, English translation, hotel management, archaeology, nuclear physics, computer science, electrical engineering, industrial engineering and business management.”
